Students with high standardized test scores often qualify for merit-based financial aid, including scholarship awards. Applicants to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, for example, are eligible for a variety of awards with ACT scores of 22 or better. These range from the Freshman Award for ACT scores of 22 or 23 ($2,000 per year for four years) to the Chancellor's Academic Distinction for ACT scores of 30 or above ($10,000 per year for four years). Renewable scholarships at the University of Kansas are granted on the basis of GPA and ACT or SAT scores. Amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000 per year, with qualifying ACT scores between 24 and 32 and minimum GPAs between 3.5 and 3.85. All incoming first-year students at Indiana University are automatically considered for Selective Scholarships, some of which use test scores as one of the qualifying criteria. The Kelley Scholars Program, offered by IU's Kelley School of Business, grants various levels of funding to students with ACT scores of 32 and GPAs of 3.8. In many if not most cases, strong test scores can increase the chances of admission and help defray the cost of a college education.

Meet a Brussels ACT Tutor: Sandy L.

Sandy L. grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska. Among the highlights of her high school career were a top 5% class ranking and upper-percentile ACT scores, which facilitated a full scholarship to the University of Nebraska. She graduated from Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in geography, and then went on to earn her master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Sandy has been teaching ACT prep in Omaha, Oklahoma City, and Brussels since 2008. She excels as both a classroom ACT instructor and as a one-on-one ACT tutor, and her student evaluations show that she is regarded as a highly effective teacher. When she's not teaching, Sandy works as an editor for a publisher of scientific journals. Her hobbies include photography, jogging, and sailing.
